**Key Responsibilities:**
+ Investigate Value Package Introduction (VPI) program team or field-based issues, understanding causal mechanisms, recommending actions, and owning problem resolution from a design perspective.
+ Apply processes such as Critical Design Decisions, System Design and Validation Consideration Checklists, and tools like iDFMEA, DVA, GD&T, CREO, ANSYS Workbench for high-quality component and subsystem design.
+ Collaborate with cross-functional technical experts and senior-level designers to communicate design intent and review designs through the Product Preceding Technology (PPT) and VPI teams.
+ Own problem resolution for moderately complex components, systems, and subsystems as experience is gained.
+ Contribute effectively to team goals, exhibiting influence within the team, and help improve systems and processes.
+ Assist in concept selection, optimization, and design specification development that impacts customers.
+ Support design decisions for components and subsystems, resolving issues in a manner that ensures customer satisfaction and compliance with technical specifications.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**
**Qualifications:**
+ **Education:** Bachelor's degree in an appropriate STEM field or equivalent experience.
+ **Licensing:** May require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
**Competencies:**
+ **Cross-Functional Design Integration:** Translate value package requirements into virtual designs and communicate the design’s capability to meet cross-functional needs.
+ **Mechanical Design Modeling and Analysis:** Create CAD models and perform system-level analyses like Dimensional Variation Analysis (DVA) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
+ **Mechanical Design Specification:** Develop specifications suchas solid models, engineering bills of materials, and detailed drawings for manufacturing and inspection.
+ **Product Problem Solving:** Solve product problems using a structured process that identifies causes, implements robust solutions, and prevents recurrence.
+ **System Requirements Engineering:** Use methods to translate stakeholder needs into verifiable system requirements.
+ **Product Failure Mode Avoidance:** Mitigate potential product failure modes by analyzing functional requirements and interactions.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
**Skills:**
+ **Knowledgeof Tools:** Proficient in Creo, GD&T, ANSYS Workbench, iDFMEA, and DVA tools.
+ **Product Knowledge:** Strong understanding of casting, forging, and heat treatment processes.
+ **Problem-Solving:** Ability to resolve moderately complex technical issues while applying engineering principles.
+ **Communication Skills:** Strong verbal and written communication skills to clearly convey technical information to diverse audiences.
+ **Self-Development:** Actively seeks opportunities for professional growth and development.
**Experience Needed for the Role:**
+ Solid experience with mechanical design and product development, particularly in the automotive or similar domains.
+ Expertise in CAD modeling, system design, and the use of engineering analysis tools.
+ Familiarity with the product development lifecycle, from concept to execution, including design reviews, issue resolution, and product lifecycle management.
**Knowledge/Skills:**
+ **Technical Expertise:** In-depth understanding of mechanical systems, Creo, GD&T, casting, forging, and heat treatment processes.
+ **Design Review Processes:** Ability to support and contribute to design reviews and ensure design decisions are communicated effectively.
+ **Product Development:** Experience in planning, scheduling, coordinating, and executing product development activities while maintaining alignment with technical requirements and stakeholder expectations.
+ **Cross-Functional Collaboration:** Skilled in working with cross-functional teams to resolve design and product issues and ensure successful product development.
**Preferred Experience:**
+ Prior experience in Tier-1 automotive suppliers or within Cummins’ engineering divisions (CDBS).
+ Background in developing products and systems for demanding customer requirements.
+ Preferably 6-10 years of experience in the automotive domain or Tier-1 suppliers, with experience in product design engineering.
